Oooh, I Got Some Shiny New Business Cards

The things that amuse and fulfill me. Seriously.

Even the smallest, most insignificant things make me happy.

I decided it would be prudent to open a Post Office box rather than list my home address on a card I intend to hand out to different people, so this afternoon was spent picking a Post Office, printing the forms, rifling through files for secondary identification papers and running back and forth to the local PO to turn in the forms and pick up my keys. I also dropped off the contracts for my anthology sale, which still feels rather nice.

Anyway, the legwork's all done and I'm now the owner of an empty box down at the local PO. There's a certain nostalgia and romance I always end up feeling when I walk into a Post Office, much like what I experience when I stay in hotels, so I'll be looking forward to more of that in the future.

The cards should be here in time for next weekend's Horror Realm convention, which is perfect. I should have planned this out long ago, but the idea of business cards as a necessity didn't strike me until very recently.

Very nice. So HR is next weekend? I may keep it in mind when I am going about my business next year, but, with a mind like mine, there are no promises.

Is there anybody you plan on attracting the attention of with these card(someone specific)?

Next weekend, here in my hometown. It's been going on for a few years as ZombieFest, but this year they changed the format a bit. It's going to be great.

I didn't buy the cards with anyone specific in mind, but seeing as everyone else is going to have them I figured it would be a good idea to have some of my own as well.

Nice-there isn't much that goes on where I live and I am in Central Florida.

I don't know if I will be making any cards any time soon, but I congratulate you on your foresight. Are you going to promote Rain while you are there?

Probably not, seeing as I'll only have posted the seventh chapter by the time the convention begins.

When I'm done with a rough draft of something, at least in the past year or so, I send a copy to Staples to have it printed and bound so I can scribble notes on the pages for editing ideas. My first draft copies of Teahouse and the first twenty chapters of Rain are usually on my person (so long as I'm lugging around my laptop, as they're always stashed in my laptop bag), so I might have those on hand. I doubt I'll be showing them to anyone, though.

Aww, you should. Selling yourself as a writer requires to be bold and a public speaker. People want to know that you would be willing to talk to them about your work.

How about this: you go up to at least five random(we could dispute what constitutes random) people and give them a little preview of what goes on in your work and where they can find it. It will be odd and you will feel stupid(initially), but, just like a job, you need to talk to people to get their attention.

I'm already a rather comfortable public speaker.

Most of the people I'm going to come into contact with are on the Permuted boards, so they're already aware of the project. The rest of the time I'll be spending there will have me in an audience listening to readings.

Hmm, that is good to know. Now that something new has gone up, it is time to promote.
